A LITTLE MORE US, IN THE MAKING

Good things
take care.

We’re building a quieter place for your everyday conversations. Here’s where Mutte is today.

IN DEVELOPMENT

Made for your pocket.

The native iOS app is in development. There is no public App Store or TestFlight download here yet. Android timing hasn’t been announced.

In the meantime, explore the idea with our fictional phone preview.

Explore the preview
TERMINAL ALPHA

A place in your terminal.

A published alpha is available for macOS and Linux, on Intel/AMD and ARM64 computers. It’s for exploring and testing while development continues.

The published release may look different from our latest development previews. Security review and public release-readiness work remain open.

Install the terminal alpha

MACOS & LINUX

From a terminal, with care.

These commands install the published alpha. Check the release notes for its version and limitations. The alpha’s security audits are not complete; don’t rely on it for high-risk communication.

Install.

If you already use Homebrew on macOS or Linux:

brew install mutte-me/tap/mutte
Install without Homebrew

Download Mutte’s installer, read it, then run it. It selects the published install-channel release, verifies the archive’s SHA-256 checksum and installs into ~/.local/bin when run as your regular user. Rust is not required.

curl --fail --show-error --location --proto '=https' \
  https://get.mutte.me/install.sh \
  --output install-mutte.sh
less install-mutte.sh
sh install-mutte.sh

If your shell says “command not found”, add the install directory for this terminal session:

export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"

Add the same line to your shell’s startup file to keep it available in new terminals.

You can also read the installer source on GitHub.

Prefer a manual download? Choose your platform’s archive and checksum in the GitHub releases.

Take a look, then connect.

Try the offline visual demo first. It doesn’t link an account:

mutte --demo

To open the terminal client and follow its account-linking flow:

mutte

It connects to Mutte’s hosted relay by default. Use mutte --no-browser to display the verification link instead of opening it automatically; the link still needs to be completed in a browser. Run mutte --help for the options available in your installed version.

Keep it up to date.

For a Homebrew installation, close Mutte and run:

brew update
brew upgrade mutte-me/tap/mutte

For an installer-based installation, download and run the installer again using the steps above. Use the same installation method and directory so your shell starts the updated binary.

mutte --version

Room to get it right.

Reliable delivery, device trust, recovery, and security review matter. A polished preview is a way to share the idea; public release comes after the necessary work.
